alexander mckenzie is a singer, a songwriter, a cynic. If you’re looking for cheery songs about rainbows and lollipops, then you’ve come to the wrong place. She’s not bitter, but she has been bitterly disappointed by humankind on several occasions. She’s also been heartbreakingly uplifted and inspired by a number of people over the last 30 years. She chooses to enjoy these moments rather than write about them, with a few choice exceptions. Melancholy thrives in her throat, humour anchors her to the surface of the earth, and fear keeps her from living the things she writes about. Her grandmother wants her to move back home to Canada and get married, but alexander has other plans. Her mission: to uncover the secret of true melancholic joy together with her band, the underpaid. Being the cynic that she is, she knows she’ll never find it, but it’s a pretty good reason to get up in the morning.

Stain on Teflon

Stain on Teflon is een folkband uit Groningen, ontstaan uit een project van twee vrienden die als straatmuzikant door Europa wouden trekken.
Harmen Ridderbos en Teake Damstra kregen afgelopen jaar het idee om samen, als muzikanten, door Europa te gaan trekken, een zomer lang. Hieruit is de band Stain on Teflon ontstaan.
Later heeft violiste Heta Salkolahti (Finland) zich bij de band gevoegd.
De band maakt voornamelijk uptempo folkmuziek, maar kan af en toe ook rustig en melancholisch uit de hoek komen. De muziek is gebaseerd op akoestisch gitaarspel en meerstemmige zang. Meestal speelt de band met z’n tweeën, maar als Heta (ook wel Miss Shokolati) er is, dan wordt er natuurlijk altijd gebruik gemaakt van haar fantastische vioolspel.
De band heeft op straat in Europa al redelijk naam gemaakt, maar ook in hometown Groningen begint de band al aardig aan de weg te werken. De afgelopen maanden speelden zij op Zwemfest, voor een volle bovenzaal in de Spieghel en in het Platformtheater.
